Some djs use cd players, some use vinyl and some like me use software on a laptop controlled by timecoded vinyl or a software controller (Hurcules RMX)
If you are a cd dj then there really is one cd players that you will aim to buy and thats the cdj1000's mk3 from pioneer.

If you are a vinyl dj then you'll most likely go for the Technics 1210's

If you are a software dj like me then you can use time code with any of the above. You can also use controllers like my Hurcules RMX, which is a soundcard, it takes a mic imput and can wire directly into an amp for full parties or club gigs.
A little over a year ago numark teamed up with serato to develope serato itch which is basically a cleaner version of serato scratch live and can only be used with a midi controller, in this case the Numark NS7. I won't get into to much detail on this so if you want to just do a google search you will find plenty of info. For me it is the ultimate controller for software, it is the cdj1000/techinics 1210s of the software world. It's something I have been wanting now since I saw the first photos and youtube clips.I am completely excited to have just made the order for this beast from Hard to find records
I simply can't wait to get it. I'm looking forward to practice
